“Writers” in English at 11 years old

The Foreign Languages Center of the Vrancea County Library and the students from the “Al. Vlahuta” School from Focsani are celebrating the 1st of June with flowers, bilingual books and theater, lunching the project “A quill named hope”.

The Foreign Languages Center’s Garden will be transformed into a live stage for the students and teachers of the “Al. Vlahuta” School who wish to celebrate the 1st of June with important guests, family and friends.
The 11 year-old students in the 5th grade have long prepared for that. Guided by prof. Marcela Iacob, they have written fable books in English for their younger colleagues (The Humiliated Fox; The Hurt Squirrel; The Friends; The Greedy Wolf; The Pigeon and the Bee) and a play with the same name, in which they will also act. The original writings are richly illustrated and presented in the bilingual version (English and Romanian). The books are also accompanied by the electronic version.
At the end of the spectacle, all present will relax and will be invited to plant flowers along with the little ones; by doing this, they will encourage them to beautify the library’s garden.
Everyone is invited, on the 1st of June, at 10 o’clock, at the Foreign Languages Center of the Vrancea County Library to relive the joy of childhood with us. We are happily expecting you Home!

"Painting ageless" is the motto under which the painting club opened Monday, May 25, at the Foreign Language Center of Vrancea County Library. The fourth club opened at the Center brings together lovers of painting aged between 4 and 52 years. So far, there are 34 registered and the list goes on because there are many requests.
Volunteer teacher who will lead the club, Mihaela Dănilă, from the Economic College "Mihail Kogalniceanu" Focsani, promised the club members that she will help each one to learn to paint according to prior knowledge. The club will combine theory and practice in the actual activity of painting. Mihaela will propose exhibitions and contests in order to stimulate further interest and love for this art of beauty. Club members will have books and art materials from the Center fund and an impressive collection of slides of the most famous paintings and painters. In addition, the recently opened multimedia room will show presentations on electronic media, documentary films about famous artists and allow information searches on topics of art. One of the Center rooms will be decorated with the most beautiful work made at the club and Mihaela will create original banners for presentation in the Center.
The club will be held in the outside in garden of the Foreign Language Center like all other clubs and activities at the Center.
"The meetings will continue during the summer holidays, parents and children being very excited about this opportunity and pleasant alternative to spend time in an educational and relaxing way. Leisure and educational alternatives are almost nonexistent in Focsani and all enjoy the beautiful and interesting things that are going on at the library. Although the official registration period has ended, you can still enter the club because they are willing to take more and have not limited places. We are glad, additionally, that this club has been a great success for all ages." (Anamaria Cătănoiu, Coordinator Foreign Languages Center)

The Multimedia Lounge Inauguration

The Rotary “Varana” Club from Focsani and the Vrancea County Library “Duiliu Zamfirescu” have inaugurated the multimedia lounge at the Foreign Languages Center.

Participants at the event were Mircea Diaconu; vice president of the Vrancea County Council; Iordache Bostan, general school inspector; Dan Cazaciuc, spokesman of the City Hall and Daniel Ocheselu, councilor at the Vrancea County Council.
The principal donor, The Rotary Club, was represented by its current president, Doru Simiz, by its upcoming president, Rodica Dinuta and by other people in the staff.

By the goodwill of the Rotary “Varana” Club from Focsani, the users of the Foreign Languages Center and the members of the community will be benefiting from a new feature at the library; a multimedia lounge equipped with furniture and 7 fully operational computers ready to satisfy all the requests.

Along with the free internet access, the multimedia materials from the Center’s fund could be utilized for: conversation guides, dictionaries on CD, audio books (donated by the American partner, John Korst) and a lot of other materials with an electronic basis.

The users could also edit materials and assignments, having the possibility of copying them on CD, DVD or a memory stick. They could also communicate with their relatives or friends through the internet and web-cam.

The Foreign Languages Center also offers educational programs, with the help of volunteer teachers, for learning basic computer skills and for cultural activities with the collaboration of various institutions in the country and abroad.

With this donation, the ground was set for a future collaboration between the Library and the Rotary Club, institutions that will continue to support the Vrancea County community through common projects.
The setting up of the multimedia lounge was also supported by other institutions, firms and generous persons who wanted to join this project oriented towards our entire community, through sponsorships or voluntary work: Info Star SRL; Eximo Security; SC Gex Electric SRL, Maux Design; informatics volunteer teachers: Florin Enache, Carmen Dumitru, Tudorel Bezea and other professors, children, students and parents.

In the end, the band, “Accord” sang some popular and western songs that made the audience happy.
